Super Nuns
Talitha Kum
Talitha Kum is a global collective of nun convents that dedicate their lives to combating human trafficking. And they do this by locating brothels and trafficking camps, sneaking in during the dead of night, escorting the victims out, then flying them to undisclosed locations where they are given food, shelter and, most importantly, safety. The nuns do this at incredible risk to their own lives and to prevent retaliation often must keep their identities and operations a secret. They are in my humble opinion, the closest thing the world has to real life superheroes.
So how do you tell the stories of this incredible organization when you literally can't tell their stories?
Enter Super Nuns, a Patreon page where each month we enlisted artists from across the world and across different mediums (anime, illustration, street art) to tell the mission of these Super Nuns through art. While anyone could join the page for free, to incentivize paid subscribers, each month we would raffle off signed copies of that month's art to the paid tier. For our very first sign-up, we got the original patron of the arts to officially join Patreon: Pope Francis. (Funny logistical note - The Pope doesn't use money the way we do and owns no bank cards, which made signing him up for Patreon difficult. Luckily Patreon took the Vatican's word that he was good for it.)
